The track

The song and video clip discusses the influence of social trends and …media in a potentially distopian world.

The lyrics and imagery draw heavily from, what some would say were, prophetic works of fiction. George Orwell’s “1984”, Aldous Huxley’s “A Brave New World”. There is even a “The Matrix” reference. The song title itself is a direct quote from 1 John 5:19, which refers to the world being in the “hands of the wicked one”.

In a world of information and marketing tools in the paln of your hand, disinformation disguised as news, marketing disguised as entertainment, personalised mind control, how easy it is to unconsciously be obedient consumers and let important issues be brushed under the carpet.

The Video Clip Synopsis

The clip opens viewing the world from space, rapidly getting to street level. The enigmatic blonde black angel is seen tempting the viewer away, using a pretty face and smile, and with a over the shoulder look as she walks away, encouraging the viewer to follow. The words Consume, Obey and the sum 2+5=5, appears repeatedly.

In a dark club, we are introduced to a number of characters, none of whom look that happy or even having a good time. Perhaps they are seeking temporary solace from the pressures of daily life, self medicating with alcohol, drugs or even validation from other clubbers.

In the city scape, a dark sky is developing, which would normally indicate a storm coming, or at least fear and forboding. A homeless, dishevelled, clearly stressed man pushes a trolley filled with his meager possessions in search of a safe shelter and somewhere to rest.

All the while the clubbers dance, their faces showing their acquired disconnection from whats going on outside. The repeated message is Consume, Obey, 2+2 equals 5.

Workers working their 9-5 jobs, creating huge untaxed profits for the faceless corporations which heavily market unattainable dreams. No value is placed on taking care of the most vulnerable in society. If you’re old, you’re forgotten, if you’re young, access to housing and stability are unattainable, your dreams go up in flames.

The black winged angel is ever present, the ‘innocent’ face, alluring, the black wings indicate what?

Inequality of the sexes, they feel like they have no voice, the media misrepresents the real issues, preferring to publish selacious headlines.
Its all about the dollar, sex sells. Biased, inaccurate reporting of violence against women and girls, anyone who speaks out are being silenced.

Social media is a powerful influence over modern life, where big brother is watching you, algorithims dictating what we see and consume. The dopamine hits distancing is physically, while alleging to bring us closer electronically, but on their terms.

Big brother is watching. The black angel is coming for you! Reminding us to Consume, Obey and believe 2+2 equals 5.

The lab technician asks us to choose: Blue Pill or Red Pill.

The black winged angel’s journey is interupted, when spots another angel winged person, and in a “road to damascus” style, the white winged angel appears to have a positive influence. We see them run hand in hand, finally getting together, with the white winged angel having a positive influence.

Personal attributes are encouraged by previous characters looking straight at you, such as Respect, Empathy, Truth, Love, Peace.

The lab tech offers the blue and red pills once again, this time saying “its up to you, choose”.

Time is running out. The Red Pill opens up a world where we are encouraged to live. To demonstrate these positive qualities, to support each other, to call out bad behaviour. Staying silent is compliance.

All it takes for bad things to happen, is for good people to do nothing.

DaFish appears several times through the clip, in a positive homage to the face of Big Brother, but this time, watching to see if you accept this message.[+] Show More
